Maj.-Gen. Sir Cromer Ashburnham gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1857 in the service of the 3rd Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857.1 He fought in the Second Afghan War between 1878 and 1880.1 He was Colonel of the King's Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the First Boer War in 1881.1 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.1 He fought in the Sudan Expedition in 1884.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).1 He gained the rank of Major-General.1
