Edward Jeremiah Curteis MP [535]
General Notes: Edward Jeremiah and his children, were important landowners and political figures in eastern Sussex. Edward Jeremiah combined legal practice with a political career; he was MP for Sussex 1820-30, while his children represented Rye and the eastern division at various times between 1830-52. They were related to the banking firm of G E and W Jemmett and W Curteis of Ashford and London, while E J Curteis owned his own bank in Rye. Research Notes: Edward Jeremiah Curteis, eldest son of Edward Jeremiah Curteis of Windmill Hill, Sussex, and Mary [BARRETT] his wife, died 7th August, 1795, aged 4- years. Noted events in his life were: • Occupation: MP for Sussex. Edward married Mary Barrett [536] [MRIN: 404], daughter of Rev Stephen Barrett [537] and Mary Jacob [807], on 14 Apr 1789 in St Dunstans London. (Mary Barrett [536] was born on 14 Aug 1764 in Ickleford, Herts,, christened in 1766 and died on 14 May 1841 in Windmill Hill Sussex.) |
